THE RAINFOREST IS SLOWLY DISAPPEARING

Amazonia is located in a vast region of South America with an area of 6.7 million square kilometres and is known as the green lung of the earth: it is home to the world's largest rainforest and richest river system. Abundant rainfall and constant high temperatures all year round create the perfect conditions that guarantee high levels of biodiversity, from plants to animals.

Unfortunately, climate change and deforestation are threatening the balance of this region, which is an invaluable natural heritage on which the entire existence of our planet depends.

Over the last 30 years, the area of this forest is shrinking at a rapid rate: deforestation caused by fires is causing 12,000 square kilometres per year of tropical forest to disappear, and with it many animal and plant species are threatened with extinction.
