“Any self respecting Scot knows that a good tartan is the solution to everything:
it tells you where you are, where you belong, who your friends and family are.” - Trisha Telep
For centuries, tartan has been the ultimate symbol of clan kinship… checks and color combinations embodying a deep sense of belonging to a family and a territory.
The ancient, legendary spirit of tartan meets Myar’s signature military aesthetic in the brand’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection, which perfectly showcases the label’s peculiar attention to details and unparalleled love for authentic traditions.
Fully embracing the art of upcycling, Myar’s distinctive way to participate to the green revolution, the brand carefully manipulates different tartan deadstock fabrics in a wide color palette to revamp the signature look of military staples. At the same time, civil garments, such as plaid shirts, are cross-pollinated with army references to create hybrid styles showing a new, fresh layered look. Crafted exclusively from deadstock fabrics and upcycled pieces, each of Myar’s creations is one-of-a-kind, reflecting the brand’s search for uniqueness and individuality.
The check extravaganza also invests cargo pants, military trenches, asymmetric shirts and jackets, which are peppered with bold safety orange pockets.
Playing with the multiple meanings of the word check, a German parka is fully inspected and turned inside out revealing its impeccable lining. The same treatment is dedicated to a zippered bomber, trimmed with military green tape.
In keeping with the brand’s experimental approach, this season Myar also played with garment dyeing by using fully certified chemical techniques, reflecting the brand’s authentic commitment to sustainability. Focusing on a restrained color palette of red, blue and yellow, the brand created charming overdyeing color effects on Swedish ribbed long-sleeved tops, patchwork shirts mixing camouflage and checks, as well as on hyper comfortable camouflage jogger sweatpants.
Telegraphing its distinctive message based on inclusivity, consciousness and creativity, Myar rediscovers traditions, gives new life to vintage garments and creates a community where awareness and respect dominate. Like in a clan, with its signature tartan.
